Wyoming Tennis Association Recognizes 2011 Award Winners
Laramie, WYOMING – The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Wyoming District announces its 2011 outstanding players and volunteers.
USTA Wyoming is very proud to recognize the following 2011 Annual Award Recipients:
Junior Sportsmanship of the Year: Julia Fenn, Sheridan, WY The Junior Sportsmanship of the Year Award is given annually to a junior boy or girl within the Wyoming District who exhibits fairness, graceful acceptance of results and courteous relations on and off the court.
Adult Player of the Year: Mario Ibarra, Laramie WY The Adult Player of the Year is given annually to an adult player within the Wyoming District who exemplified the spirit of tennis through their activities on and off the court.
Marie Robertson Traveling Trophy: Ken Yamada, Cheyenne, WY The Board established this trophy to be awarded in future years to an Adult or Junior who has made an outstanding contribution to the Wyoming Tennis Association but who also exemplifies a sense of fair play, good sportsmanship and true enjoyment of the game. This award is presented from time to time to a worthy recipient.
Family of the Year: The Voorhies Family (James and Julie), Casper WY. The Family of the Year Award is presented annually to the family within the Wyoming District who has exemplified the benefits of tennis as a family recreational sport and has contributed to their tennis community in a significant way.
Organization of the Year: University of Wyoming Tennis Facility, Laramie, WY The Organization of the Year Award is given periodically to recognize services rendered to the Wyoming District’s members by its member organizations: Community Tennis Associations, Clubs, Parks & Recreations Departments.
Media Excellence Award: KCWY 13, Casper, WY The Media Excellence Award is given periodically to outstanding media associations in the Wyoming District who go above and beyond the normal role of media to help promote the game of tennis in their area.
Volunteer of the Year: John Buyok, Sheridan, WY The Volunteer of the Year Award is given annually to a Wyoming District volunteer to recognize his or her outstanding contributions, personal unselfishness and devotion to the game.
Nominations were submitted by tournament directors, coaches, players and tennis enthusiasts around the state. After careful consideration, the WYOTA Board voted their choices for each award. The Awards Recognition is held around the state within each community. USTA Wyoming takes direction from a Board of Directors and volunteer committees. Without the dedication and commitment of its volunteers, WYOTA would not be able to effectively grow the game of tennis and introduce as many people to the sport of a lifetime.
