Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion is a strategic priority for the USTA Wyoming District and one of our core values.  Diversity allows us to touch "All of Wyoming" and Inclusion allows "All of Wyoming" to touch us.

Our responsibility as the Governing Body for the sport in Wyoming obligates us to identify and lead in removing barriers to allow us to be inclusive so that tennis reflects all of Wyoming

So what have we been up to?

  • We have helped establish QuickStart Tennis programs at a number of Boys and Girls Clubs.

  • We conducted QuickStart Tennis Play Days at the Hispanic Festival in Cheyenne.

  • We hosted a Wheelchair Tennis Clinic in Cheyenne.

  • We are working with the Wyoming Special Olympics to assist them in introducing tennis to their athletes.

  • We are working with the community surrounding Martin Luther King Jr Park in Cheyenne to convert the existing tennis court that is not in playable condition into 2 - 3 new 36' QuickStart Tennis Courts.

The Wyoming District is currently seeking volunteers in all segments of our operations; and especially those who represent diverse backgrounds.  These positions include officiating, event planning and administration, fundraising, committee work and even positions on our Board.  We are also hoping to identify underserved groups and to network with diverse organizations.

Got any ideas or what to volunteer?  If so, please contact Ken Yamada, WYOTA Chair for Diversity and Inclusion, and see how we can reach additional populations  your community.
