September 9, 2021:

The candidates standing for election to the USTA Wyoming Board of Directors for the 2021-2024 term have been announced.  The election will take place at the upcoming USTA Wyoming Annual Meeting being held on Saturday, October 9th from noon - 1:30 pm at the University of Wyoming Indoor Tennis Complex in Laramie, WY.  All current USTA Individual and Organizational members are welcome to participate.  The meeting is free of charge but registration is required by Wednesday, October 6th at 11:59 pm MT.

The Candidates and their Statements of Intent include:

MARY PERKINS - TORRINGTON, WY

Having coached high school tennis for 22 years and retiring this May, I look forward to staying connected with the tennis community. I have always enjoyed playing leagues, meeting people, and just having fun.  As a retired educator I bring 28 years of organizational skills, a love of youth and coaching, and an understanding of Wyoming tennis. I have served on the board for the past six years and look forward to having more time to spend working with the USTA board and all those involved in tennis around the state. I especially look forward to promoting youth tennis and league play.  My priorities for USTA Wyoming include increasing membership at both the youth and adult level…I am sure after the covid year we have our work cut out for us, working with schools (PE teachers) to promote tennis and promoting fun tennis activities in all communities at all levels - including players who don't have a USTA membership.  I believe there are many communities that don't understand what USTA has to offer. Getting into those communities is a challenge-I look forward to brainstorming ideas to meet the challenge.

STEPHENSON EMERY - CASPER, WY

Tennis is a great game! I want to encourage more people to play.  I have been a tennis volunteer for twenty years at the district, sectional & national level. I have been playing most of my life. I am a lawyer.  My priorities for USTA Wyoming include a focus on facilities, providers & youth tennis.  I really enjoy the folks on this board and want to continue our relationship!

JOSH COSSITT - CHEYENNE, WY

I want to better tennis not just in my city but I’m my state. I think I would be a good asset as one of the top providers in the area and my grass roots programming.  I hold several leadership roles in various tennis organizations including but not limited to USPTA, USTA, and PTR.  My priorities for USTA Wyoming include bringing new active members to the leadership roles in the organization, creating functional working committees and creating a culture of unified growth and cooperation across the state.

DIANE MCGEE - JACKSON, WY

I am passionate about tennis! I love teaching tennis in our community for Parks and Recreation - to kids especially. I am a board member for our newly formed Teton County CTA, which is trying to get covered public tennis courts in Jackson, and I'd love to know more about what is going on with tennis in our state. Having public access to tennis year round is a priority for me in a community that has only private covered tennis available year round.  I have been teaching tennis to children for 3 years now for our local parks and rec. I was a college tennis player for 2 years and also played competitively in Hawaii for 4 years. In college and in Hawaii, I was fortunate to have a coach that taught me many skills as well as taught me how to coach others. I am in the process of acquiring the Net Gen coaching credential and am committed to learning new skills as a coach. I am part of a grassroots effort to get public covered courts in Jackson and am learning so much about the process. Sharing this journey with other town in the future would be a skill that I could share.  With our CTA's process to get covered courts, it would be great to know more about what our great state of WY is doing and how WY USTA can support us and other towns like us. Thank you for your consideration!
